The location of the museum where von Braun is posing for this picture is undoubtedly the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, location of the George Marshall Space Flight Center, so named in 1960 and in fact the beginning of NASA. Von Braun and appr. 100 of his rocket scientists struck a deal with the Americans towards the end of the Second World War. They had been working on the V2 rocket in Peenemuende and in september 1945 were given every opportunity to continue their research and development, first at Fort Bliss Texas and from 1950 onwards in Redstone, Alabama. January 31st 1958 Von Braun was responsible for the launch of America's first satelite from Huntsville, the "Explorer I". Von Braun became director of GMSFC in 1960 and remained there until 1970.
